Poderi Fogliati Winery

A building where architecture and landscape merge, transforming the vision of Poderi Fogliati into space and matter.

In the heart of the Barolo Hills rises the new Poderi Fogliati winery — an intervention that interprets the landscape of the Langhe as the very material of the project.
The building was conceived to create an architecture that merges seamlessly with the natural topography, following the slope of the terrain and minimizing the visual impact of the construction.
The main volume, partially embedded in the ground, appears as a compact and silent mass emerging from the hillside with balance and restraint, restoring continuity to the natural profile of the land. The load-bearing structure in precast reinforced concrete is wrapped in metal gabions filled with local stone — a solution that recalls traditional agricultural retaining walls while enhancing the building’s thermal performance.
Large glazed openings extend the tasting room toward the surrounding landscape, establishing a direct relationship between the wine experience and the land from which it originates. Inside, the production and aging areas are organized in a functional layout, with distinct paths for operations and visitors, ensuring clarity and efficiency of use.
The calibrated use of natural light, precise microclimatic control, and the choice of local materials define a contemporary work deeply rooted in the UNESCO landscape of the Langhe.
An essential architecture, built on proportion and silence, where technique and tradition meet to express — through form and matter — the culture of wine and respect for the land that gives it life.
