Urban regeneration

Transforming marginality into vitality.

The revitalization project of the S. Eligio district in Martina Franca aims to transform a marginal area into a vibrant and strategic part of the city, restoring identity and urban quality. Based on principles of inclusivity, sustainability, and innovation, the proposal addresses the district’s main issues—fragmentation, lack of public spaces, building degradation, and poor connection with the city center—through an integrated regeneration strategy.
The intervention focuses on enhancing pedestrian and cycling mobility and urban livability, introducing a panoramic greenway along via De Gasperi overlooking the Valle d’Itria, new pedestrian and cycle paths, and the S. Eligio Park as a hub for leisure and social life. An existing building is repurposed as a multipurpose community center, while the refurbishment of building facades—with color and street art—reinforces the district’s visibility and aesthetic value.
Reduced vehicular traffic, increased green areas, and the use of sustainable materials contribute to a more accessible, attractive, and landscape-integrated urban environment. S. Eligio thus becomes a bridge between city and nature, a laboratory of urban regeneration that combines innovation, environmental quality, and local identity.
